About us

REGISTER TO VOTE:

No one ever gave us the right to vote. It was won by the many men and women who nurtured a vision of a democratic society in which ordinary people might choose how they would be governed. To this end they gave generously of their time and energy, and sometimes their blood.

The present reality is that the rate of participation in both Local and National elections has declined disastrously. Further, as a result of the events of the last few years, politics and politicians have never been held in such low esteem. There is an urgent need to encourage people to believe that they can change their circumstances by voting.

So often we hear such comments as:

'There is no point in voting. They are all the same. They look after themselves and don't care about what we want.'

There is sadly some truth in this but the conclusion is profoundly mistaken.   By not voting we let 'them' just carry on as they always have done. By voting together it is possible to make real changes.

'I'm not going to vote because my one vote won't make any difference.'

Well, one vote won't but if enough of us do vote we can make a difference. We can throw out those who are incompetent or unprincipled and replace them with people of honesty and integrity who will act in the interests of ordinary working people.

A first important step is to encourage as many people as possible to register to vote.

Download  'Application to be registered as an elector' to obtain a registration form. If you are already on the Register of Electors print out the form and give it to someone who is not - a friend, relative, neighbour or work colleague.

Above all, use your vote. If you do not you will just leave it to others, including the extreme right, to make choices for us.
